I’ve been doing websites and using hosting companies for 12 years. 1and1 is the worst I’ve ever found. On average the server I rent from them has crashed every 4 days since early February. I have to go into the control panel and power-cycle it to reboot. 1and1’s tech support (and sales, billing, and complaints) department claims you have to prove it’s their fault the server is crashing before they’ll repair or replace a server. These same websites ran for five years on an old FreeBSD box without crashing. You can read about it in my blog at
